Zebra Mussels were found in Lake Shawnee during the summer of 2013. Lake users should Clean, Drain, and Dry boats, trailers, and any equipment that comes in contact with the water to keep from moving zebra mussels elsewhere.
Bluegill Fair Up to 10 inches Bluegill activity is slow, but will improve with increasing water temperatures 
Channel Catfish Good 0.5-10 lbs Channel Catfish activity is increasing.  Nightcrawlers or cut bait are producing the most bites early in the season.  
Black Bass Fair Up to 5 lbs. Bass activity is slow, but will improve with increasing water temperatures 
White Bass/Wiper Good up to 5lbs. White Bass and Wiper are schooled near river/creek mouths and off the dam.  They are pre-spawn and will begin spawning in the coming weeks.  Jig and plastics, spoons, or small crankbaits are producing bites 
Crappie Good-Fair .5 - 1lbs Crappie will begin to break off their winter pattern as they begin to stage near spawning areas (coves with brush piles, timber, and rock).   Crappie can be caught around brush piles and standing timber using minnows or small plastics. .
Trout Very Good up to 5lbs Trout can be caught on powerbait, spoons, or rooster tails.  Trout Season will run from December 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.  A trout license is required to possess trout during the trout season. After March 31, anyone with a valid fishing license may harvest up to 5 trout/day. 
General Comments

Urban Catfish stocking.  Catchable sized Channel Catfish will be stocked in March, April, May, and September.  

On March 14th, the following ponds will be stocked with catchable-sized Channel Catfish.

Governor's Ponds, West Lake (Gage Park), Central Park, Shawnee Jr., Horseshoe Bend, Clarion Park, Shawnee State Fishing Lake.

20 cedar tree brush piles were submerged to provide fish habitat.
