Salina Parks and Recreation has received the grant requested to start the improvements to enhance the fisheries at Lakewood Park.  The first phase of the project will be to open Lakewood up for a public fish salvage.  A public salvage is a means to encourage anglers to harvest fish prior to their removal. The creel/length limits will not be enforced during this period of time and additional means for take will be allowed. This will take place the last three weeks of September (11th – 30th) 2016.

Starting on October 1st the access to fishing at Lakewood will be suspended to all anglers.  At this time the fish removal will begin under the Kansas Wildlife & Parks supervision and will span the entire month of October.  While access is suspended, fish that are present along the shore or in the water are not allowed to be taken.  The fish will be disposed of properly over this time span.

New life for the lake will start again in the later parts of October with a fresh stocking of bluegill.  Largemouth bass and catfish will also be stocked in the lake starting in the spring.  This staggered time will allow our bluegill population to grow and establish themselves.  Pending water quality testing, we will also welcome our fall stocking of rainbow trout, with the season starting on schedule on November 1st.
