CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - Last Updated: 2/24/2017

Waterfowl numbers Duck numbers are up and goose numbers down this past week. We now estimate between 40,000 to 80,000 total ducks on the Area.   Mostly mallard, widgeon, gadwall, green winged teal and pintail. A good number of redheads, shovelers and coots are now on the Area as well. We estimate about 30,000 to 60,000 geese on the Area, most are snow geese.
Water level Pools 1A is near 22", 1B and 1C are around 30".  Pool 2 is near 17 inches, Pools 3A is about 13 inches, 3B is dry except for trapped water, 4A is about 16 inches; 4B is around 18 inches, and Pool 5 has about 13.5".
Hunting conditions We were successful in keeping Pools 3A and 4 relatively dry late this summer and as a result we have at least done some Phragmites spraying and mowing of hunting holes in the perimeter and shallow water areas of those pools.  We also cleaned out the boating channels leading from Deadman East and White Rock Parking Lots. Pool 3B is dry as we continue working on the cattail there.
Expected hunting success We haven't had too many hunters taking advantage of the Light Goose Conservation Order on the Wildlife Area.
