The following is a list of all hunting seasons


All Seasons



 2017 SPRING TURKEY:
  • Youth/Disabled Season : April 1 - 11, 2017; Legal Equipment: archery equipment and shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns using shot sizes 2 through 9.
  • Archery-Only Season: April 3 - 11, 2017; Legal Equipment: long, recurve, compound bows and crossbows.
  • Regular Season: April 12 - May 31, 2017; Legal Equipment: archery equipment and shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns using shot sizes 2 through 9.
  • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
  • Limit: Any individual who has purchased a spring turkey permit is eligible for one second turkey game tag. Spring game tags are valid for Units 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6.
2017 FALL TURKEY:

Archery/Shotgun : Oct. 1-Nov. 28, 2017 and Dec. 11, 2017 - Jan. 31, 2018

Fall Turkey Permits valid in Units 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 may be purchased over the counter at any license vendor.

No permits authorized in Unit 4.

Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.

Legal Equipment: Shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns using shot sizes 2-9; long, recurve or compound bows and crossbows. Dogs may be used while hunting turkeys during the fall turkey season.

Limit: A hunter may obtain no more than one turkey permit, which is valid for one turkey of either sex.

Fall turkey permits may be purchased through Jan. 31, 2018 over-the-counter or by phone - 800-918-2877 and are valid in Units 1,2,3,5 and 6



HUNTING & TRAPPING

  • NOTE: All furbearer hunting, trapping, and running seasons begin at 12 noon on opening day and close at midnight of closing day.
  • Species: badger, bobcat, mink, muskrat, opossum, raccoon, swift fox, red fox, gray fox, striped skunk, weasel.
  • Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 18, 2015 - Feb. 15, 2016 Limit: No limit.

BEAVER AND OTTER TRAPPING

  • Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 18, 2015 - March 31, 2016
  • Limit: No limit on beavers. Two (2) per season limit on otters.
  • Each otter trapped shall be presented to KDWPT for tagging within seven days of the close of the trapping season. The lower canine teeth shall be surrendered to KDWPT at that time.
  • NO OPEN TRAPPING OR HUNTING SEASON ON ANY OTHER FURBEARERS

RUNNING

  • Species: bobcat, opossum, raccoon, red fox, and gray fox.
  • Season Dates (statewide): March 1-Nov. 8
  • Legal hours for running furbearers is 24 hours daily. Furbearers cannot be killed or taken during the running season. A furharvester license is required to run furbearers. It is illegal to possess any firearm or other hunting or trapping equipment while pursuing these animals during the running season.

 COYOTES HUNTING & TRAPPING

  • Season Dates (statewide): All year
  • Possession Limit: No limit.

No closed season for trapping or hunting coyotes. Motor vehicles and radios in vehicles may be used to hunt coyotes only. Furharvester license required to trap and sell; hunting license required to hunt.

2018 Deer Season Dates:

 

Youth and Disability: Sept. 8 - Sept. 16, 2018  (Youth 16 and younger, who possess a valid deer permit, may hunt during this special deer season only while under the immediate supervision of an adult 18 or older. Any person who possesses a valid deer permit and has a permit to hunt from a vehicle pursuant to KAR 115-18-4 or a disability assistance permit issued pursuant to KAR 115-18-15 may also hunt during this season. All resident and nonresident permits are valid, and equipment restrictions designated on permits apply. Hunter orange is required.

Muzzleloader: Sept. 17 - Sept. 30, 2018  (The following permits may be used during this season in units specified on permit, using muzzleloader or archery equipment: resident or nonresident Muzzleloader Either-species/Either-sex Permit, resident Any-Season White-tailed Deer Permit, nonresident Muzzleloader White-tailed Deer Permit, Hunt-Own-Land Permit, Special Hunt-Own-Land Permit, Antlerless White-tailed Deer Permit, and Antlerless Either-Species Deer Permit. Hunter orange clothing is required

Archery: Sept. 17 - Dec. 31, 2018

Pre-Rut Firearm Whitetail Antlerless Only: Oct. 6 - Oct. 8, 2018.  Any permit that allows the harvest of a whitetailed antlerless deer is valid during this season. Equipment and unit restrictions on permit imposed. Hunter orange clothing is required.  Ft Riley unit CLOSED for pre-rut season.

Regular Firearm:   Nov. 28 - Dec. 9, 2018

Firearm Whitetail Antlerless-Only Deer Seasons:

Jan. 1 , 2019      Units 6, 8, 9, 10, 16 and 17

Jan. 1 - 6, 2019      Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 11, 13,and 14

Jan. 1 - 13, 2019    Units 12, 15, 19 and 10A (Ft Leavenworth)

Archery Whitetail Antlerless-Only Deer Seasons:

Jan. 14 - 31, 2019  Unit DMU 19 ONLY

 

Number of Whitetail Antlerless-Only (WAO) Permits a hunter may purchase is five but they may use them as follows:

The first antlerless whitetail permit shall be valid for Units 1 thru 17 and 19, including lands managed by the department.

Four additional antlerless whitetail permits may be purchased and are valid in units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10A, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,  on private land with landowner permission, Walk-In-Hunting Areas, and Glen Elder, Kanopolis, Lovewell, Norton, Webster and Wilson Wildlife Areas and Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge.

NO ANTLERLESS WHITETAIL PERMITS VALID IN UNIT 18.

  • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

EXOTIC DOVE (Eurasian collared and ringed turtle doves only)

There is no limit on Eurasian collared and ringed turtle doves, but any taken in addition to a limit of mourning and white-winged doves during the migratory dove season must have a fully-feathered wing attached during transport.
