Field Handling a Downed deer
Can I dress pheasants in the field to ensure the meat is cooled properly?

Dressing or cleaning birds in the field is legal if you remember two things. First, pheasants must retain evidence of sex while being transported because only roosters are legal to harvest. The easiest way to do this is to leave a leg attached to the carcass. The spur is evidence of sex. And second, don't leave an unsightly mess of feathers along the roadside or parking areas. Carry a few trash bags, and while your cleaning up, pick up others' trash in the area.
