Ninnescah Sailing Association Labor Day Fireworks

The Ninnescah Sailing Association has been celebrating the end of the summer with fireworks at the lake since 1995.  For years the club had fireworks on the 4 th of July like everyone else.  1995 brought the 30 thanniversary of NSA and a huge celebration was planned.  It also brought floods that would postpone the celebration from July 4 th to the Labor Day Weekend.  Since then NSA has celebrated the end of the summer with a spectacular fireworks display over the lake.  Come celebrate the summer of 2015, our 50th anniversary, Sunday September 6 at the Ninnescah Sailing Association located on the West Shore of Cheney Reservoir.  Fireworks begin at sundown.  You can watch them from the water or watch them from the cove in front of the NSA activity center.  Come early, bring a lawn chair, and enjoy the display.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Hillsdale Range and Training Facility is pleased to announce a monthly summer training program for novice handgun shooters, both pistol and revolver.

The second Tuesday of every month from 6-8 PM: May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8.

The fees will be $10 per student for non-members. Members shoot for free.

Instruction will be conducted by NRA certified instructors, and will be a combination of lecture and live fire.
Class will be geared to individuals with limited or no handgun experience who want to learn to shoot, or who may be considering enrolling in a concealed pistol course. however, this is not a concealed pistol course, and we will not deal with any aspect of concealed carry.
The class will focus on safety, shooting stance and technique, adherence to the principles of pistol & revolver shooting, and accurate shot placement on targets at varying distances.
Attendees should bring their favorite pistol or revolver, 100 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection, and an appropriate cleaning kit.

Beginning on August 01, 2015 will be holding Hunter Safety classes twice a month here at Gander Mountain Academy. Classes will be held on the second and fourth Saturday of the monthfrom 10:00a.m. until 4:30p.m. We will no longer do registration prior to classes. We will have a sign-up starting at 9:00a.m. the morning of the class, and it will be a first come, first serve basis.The first 30 students to sign-up, who have completed the prerequisite online training, will be allowed in the class. Again, you must have completed the online training and have the certificate printed, in hand, in order to sign-up and take the class.

he National Wild Turkey Federation will hold their 2015 NWTF Kansas State JAKES Camp September 12th & 13th at White Memorial Camp, located 6 miles north of Council Grove, just off Highway K177. Youth 17 years of age and younger get to select 6 activities to participate in on Saturday which includes fishing, arts & crafts, JAKES Take Aim BB gun shooting, Disc golf, trap & still target shooting, archery and 3D archery range, canoeing, flint knapping, and Turkey Calling with three time World Champion Steve Stoltz. Saturday evening JAKES members can participate in the annual NWTF Kansas State JAKES (youth aged 12 and under) and Xtreme JAKES (youth aged 13 to 17) Turkey Calling contest. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in both divisions. Afterwards Steve Stoltz will entertain everyone with his turkey hunting stories and adventures.

Activities on Sunday morning include a presentation by Milford Nature Center and predator calling with Knight & Hale Pro Staff member Mick Bowman.

The cost of the event is $20 for JAKES members, $30 for non-JAKES members (which includes a JAKES membership), and $20 for adults. Attendees may chose to tent camp (bring your own tent) Saturday night or may elect to commute both days. Attendees also have the option, for an additional fee, to stay in a resident cabin (bunk beds & shared bath). Boys and girls will have separate cabins. There are also a few RV hookups. The cost includes lunch and supper on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Meals will be prepared by the White Memorial Camp

Step back to 1815, a time with the mountain man and the American Indians walked the recently purchased Louisiana Purchase. A time when Lewis and Clark had finished their exploration, and others were wanting to follow in their footsteps. The event interprets 1800-1840 with a traditional rendezvous when Mountain Men and American Indians camped together to trade for needed supplies from the fur companies. The field walk session will be as much like an actual hunt as possible. It is recommended to wear boots or walking shoes and long pants.  

Beginning on August 01, 2015 will be holding Hunter Safety classes twice a month here at Gander Mountain Academy. Classes will be held on the second and fourth Saturday of the month from 10:00a.m. until 4:30p.m. We will no longer do registration prior to classes. We will have a sign-up starting at 9:00a.m. the morning of the class, and it will be a first come, first serve basis. The first 30 students to sign-up, who have completed the pre-requisite online training, will be allowed in the class. Again, you must have completed the online training and have the certificate printed, in hand, in order to sign-up and take the class.

Sanders Saunter Heavy 10k Trail Race

Race starts at the overlook area. Head west briefly on white trail, before turning south on yellow. Proceed up the ridge of Saunders Mound, descend the ridge. Head north on yellow, back to the white trail. Continue on the white trail to the first connector to the blue trail at the SE corner of Lake Henry. Head east on blue to the yellow trail. Ascend and descend the Sanders Mound ridge. Head back to the blue trail and take it in to the finish. Description: This 10K/5K Trail Runs will start and finish at the Corp of Engineers Overlook Area.  Running on a section of the hiking / biking trails of the North Shore Hiking / Biking Trails from the Overlook area past our Campground #1 and back.

Students must complete the online portion of the course (https://programs.ksoutdoors.com/prg/Programs/Hunter-Education-Certification) prior to attending the field day. Each student will be issued a pre-test over the online materials. Students are required to bring their Field Day Qualifier Exam certificate with them to registration.

All students will be tested over the Internet course material. This pre-test will be administered at the beginning of the Field Day. A passing score of 22 correct answers out of 25 questions is required to proceed with the rest of the course. Students failing to achieve the minimum score of 22 will be dismissed from the class.

The field walk session will be as much like an actual hunt as possible. It is recommended to wear boots or walking shoes and long pants.  

Beginning on August 01, 2015 will be holding Hunter Safety classes twice a month here at Gander Mountain Academy. Classes will be held on the second and fourth Saturday of the month from 10:00a.m. until 4:30p.m. We will no longer do registration prior to classes. We will have a sign-up starting at 9:00a.m. the morning of the class, and it will be a first come, first serve basis. The first 30 students to sign-up, who have completed the pre-requisite online training, will be allowed in the class. Again, you must have completed the online training and have the certificate printed, in hand, in order to sign-up and take the class.
