Although the reservoir and ponds remain almost completely frozen over, many large flocks of ducks, both dabblers and divers, have been flying over the area morning and evening, presumably using open portions of Fall River and harvested crop fields. Significant numbers of Canada geese continue to use the area as well, loafing and feeding in harvested crop fields. Use by geese of the crop fields within the wildlife area has been limited.
Duck season for the Low Plains Southeast Zone is from Nov. 11 - Dec. 31, 2017 and Jan. 6-28, 2018. The season for Canada geese and light geese is open now and runs until Feb. 18.
