COMMISSION PERMITS OFFER FUND-RAISING OPPORTUNITY

Application deadline Jan. 6; seven permits available to qualifying organizations

Nonprofit organizations devoted to wildlife conservation have a new fund-raising opportunity, thanks to action taken by the 2005 Kansas Legislature and the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission.

The legislature approved provisions for annual issuance of a limited number of Commission Big Game Permits. The permits, made available through a drawing process, could be auctioned or raffled to raise money for conservation organizations. Applications are now available by contacting Sheila Kemmis, commission secretary (telephone 620-672-5911; email sheilak@wp.state.ks.us). Application deadline is Jan. 6, 2006. The drawing to award the permits will occur at the Jan. 19, 2006, meeting of the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission.

Seven permits will be available, including one elk permit, one antelope permit, and five Any Deer permits. An organization awarded a permit would pay the established fee for the permit drawn. No more than one permit will be issued to each qualifying organization, and all applicants will be required to submit proof of nonprofit status when applying.
