OTTAWA STATE FISHING LAKE LEVEL TO BE LOWERED

Dam survey and repair needed; lake still open for fishing

BENNINGTON -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has announced that Ottawa State Fishing Lake, near Bennington, will be lowered 4 to 5 feet to check for damage to the dam this fall. The water will remain at a lower level, possibly throughout the winter, while the dam is surveyed and repairs are made.

The lake will stay open to fishing and all normal activities during this time. However, boat ramps may become unusable as the water level drops. Fishing should not be adversely affected during or after the drawdown and may even improve. Lowering of the water level will also help control lily pads in shallower portions of the lake.
