NEW EQUESTRIAN FACILITIES UNDER DEVELOPMENT AT MILFORD STATE PARK

Horse-friendly facilities join growing list of recreational opportunities

MILFORD STATE PARK – Last fall, Milford State Park staff began construction of a 21-site equestrian campground, using a National Recreational Trails grant. Ten of those sites have been completed; the remainder are under construction.

The campground sites are equipped with electricity, water, and sewer utilities, as well as a modern toilet, tables, grills, fire pits, hitching posts, roofed corrals, and a horse bay wash station. A shelter house is planned for the future.

The area has been a popular destination for horse enthusiasts and campers alike. When completed, the campground will provide riding access to a 20-mile-long trail system that traverses Milford State Park, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation area, and trails managed by the City of Junction City.

In addition to Milford State Park, other Kansas state parks with equestrian facilities include Eisenhower , El Dorado , Hillsdale , Kanopolis , Perry , Scott , and Tuttle Creek .
