YOUTH SHOOTING CLINIC PLANNED AT COUNCIL GROVE OCT. 21

Special event designed to encourage youth participation in shooting sports

Council Grove area youth are invited to attend a free shotgun and archery shooting clinic on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Council Grove Reservoir. Controlled live-fire instruction and a computer hunting simulator will teach safe, responsible, and fun shooting techniques. The event is part of KDWP’s Pass It On program, designed to recruit and retain Kansas hunters, particularly youngsters.

Participants will be provided safety and shooting instruction by certified shotgun and archery instructors. All gear and supplies -- including shotguns, shells, bows, arrows, targets, and eye and ear protection will be provided.

Anyone between the ages of 10 and 16 may participate. Participants are required to pre-register for the event. Students are not required to have completed a hunter education course. The event will begin at 12 p.m. at the Corps of Engineers area between Marina Cove and Neosho Park. Check-in and a free lunch will be provided by Quail Unlimited from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Instruction will begin at 1 p.m. and end at approximately 5 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Neosho Valley Chapter of Quail Unlimited, the Kansas Wildlife Officers Association, and Morris County hunter education instructors.

Pre-registration before Oct. 16 is required. For more information, phone Brent Konen at 620-767-5900.
