EXTENDED WHITETAIL ANTLERLESS SEASON OPENS JAN. 1

Season not open in all units, and
regular-season permit and game tag restrictions apply
PRATT -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) will conduct a firearms extended whitetail antlerless deer season Jan. 1-7, 2007. Many hunters who did not fill a deer permit or Whitetail Antlerless Only Deer game tag during one of the regular 2006 seasons (muzzleloader, archery, firearms) may use that permit during this season. However, all permits revert to whitetail antlerless only permits.

Hunters should understand that while unfilled permits and game tags may carry over into the January 2007 season, they are only valid in the unit or units listed on the permit or game tag. During the January 2007 season, units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 17, and 18 are closed to all deer hunting.

For those who have not purchased a permit but would like to hunt the January season, permits may be purchased through Jan. 6. After Dec. 30, hunters are no longer required to purchase an antlered permit. Whitetail Antlerless Only Deer game tags are valid only on private land or Walk-In Hunting areas.

These rules are clarified in the 2006 Kansas Hunting and Furharvesting Regulations Summary, available wherever licenses are sold or online at www.kdwp.state.ks.us. This brochure is an essential tool for all hunters wanting to know whether their permits are valid in the January season.
