WILDLIFE APPRECIATION AND CONSERVATION DAYS SEPT. 8 & 9

Information booths, conservation programs, food highlight event
EMPORIA -- On Friday afternoon and all day Saturday, Sept. 8 and 9, local chapters of Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Lyon County Soil Conservation District, and volunteer Kansas hunter education instructors will conduct Wildlife Appreciation and Conservation Days at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply in Emporia. The groups will host informational booths and answer questions on a wide array of conservation topics.

In addition, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will man a Laser Shot computer simulated hunting program where participants can test their shooting skills and learn more about when to shoot. Gamo Air Rifles will also have a shooting gallery outside.

Bluestem Supply will grill and smoke meat in the parking lot and demonstrate cooking techniques. Hot dogs and other concessions will be sold, with all the proceeds going to the conservation groups. "Grandpa Pokey" will make animal balloons for kids. Drawings will include a number of prizes, including a fireproof gun safe and a Savage .22 rifle.

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. For more information, phone 620-342-5502.
