KDWP TO OFFER WINGSHOOTING CLASSES

Open to everyone, classes run every Tuesday evening in August
PRATT -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) will offer wingshooting classes throughout the month of August. The classes will run 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday evening and will include both basic and advanced teaching. Shooting will be done at the Pratt Gun Club, north of Pratt Community College east of U.S. Highway 61. All instructors are certified by the National Sporting Clays Association.

Participants will pay a $30 fee for the course. Instruction, ammunition, clay targets, and shotguns will be provided. (Participants may bring their own shotguns.)

"The purpose of the course is to increase the shooting skills of upland bird hunters, as well as to encourage more folks to take up upland bird hunting," says Wayne Doyle, statewide hunter education coordinator for KDWP.

Pre-registration and payment in advance are required. The course is limited to 20 participants, so early pre-registration is encouraged. To pre-register using a credit card, phone 620-672-5911 and ask for Hunter Education. Participants may also pre-register in person at the KDWP Pratt Operations Office, 512 SE 25th Ave., Pratt.

An eight-week wingshooting class will be conducted in the Kansas City area in August and September, one night per week. The first night will be Thursday, Aug. 2. A valid hunter education certificate is required for the Kansas City course. The cost is $15 per session, which covers two boxes (50 rounds) of shotgun ammunition and clay targets per session.
