CEDAR BLUFF STATE PARK HOSTS CHRISTMAS IN THE COUNTRY

Visitors travel long distances to enjoy light display, bonfire, hayrack ride, much more

The Cedar Bluff State Park Christmas "Holiday In Lights" display is a popular western Kansas holiday attraction located about 45 miles southwest of Hays. Including miles of colorful lights lining the state park on the reservoir’s north shore, the display attracts visitors from long distances. This year’s event begins this Dec. 6.

The light display, which originated in 2006, is a joint venture among state park staff, a local friends group, and area businesses and utilities. It provides one of the state’s best Christmas light displays in a rural setting. Cost for the event is $1 per person and includes an auto tour, a bonfire, hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows, hayrack rides, and a visit with Santa. Normal park entry fees are waived for all vehicles attending the Christmas lights display.

The Cedar Bluff display includes two weekends and one Wednesday night. Dates of the six-night event are Dec. 6-7, 10, and 12-14. These are the only dates that lights will be on. More information is available from the Cedar Bluff State Park office (phone 785-726-3212 or email cedarbluffsp@wp.state.ks.us).
