YOUTH TURKEY HUNT MARCH APRIL 5

Hunters 16 and younger invited; registration deadline March 28

COUNCIL GROVE -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) -- in cooperation with area chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Quail Unlimited, as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers -- is conducting a special turkey hunt April 5 near Council Grove. Youth must be 16 or younger to qualify. The event is part of KDWP's "Pass It On" program, designed to recruit young hunters.

Kansas turkey hunting prospects are excellent, and the excitement of the spring hunt can spark a passion for the outdoors many young Kansans have never experienced. Participants in this hunt will pattern their shotguns and scout for turkeys the evening before the hunt. The morning of the hunt, they will be guided on public and private land. The event will also include door prizes, a turkey hunting presentation, and a hunter’s breakfast and lunch.

Lodging is available in nearby Council Grove, and camping is available at Council Grove Reservoir. Registration is required by March 28. For more information or to register, phone Brent Konen at 620-767-5900.
