The Wildlife and Parks Commission
Serving as a regulatory body for KDWP, the Commission is a seven-member, non-partisan board made up of no more than four members of any one political party. Commissioners serve staggered four-year terms and advise the Secretary on planning and policy issues regarding administration of KDWP.
All Commission meetings are accessible and open to the public, and time is always set aside for public comment on non-agenda items.
The Commission's Mission is that of the Departments: "To conserve and enhance Kansas' wildlife and its habitats, ensuring current and future generations appreciate and enjoy these living resources and associated recreation, while informing the public of the status of Kansas' natural resources, gaining understanding and support in achieving this mission."
Nonprofit organizations (based or operating in Kansas) that actively promote wildlife conservation and the hunting and fishing heritage are eligible to participate in KDWP's Commission Big Game Permit program. Through this program, eligible nonprofits get a chance to draw one of seven special big game permits, which can then be sold to raise money for conservation-based projects. Here are the 2024 winners.

The Commission begins all public meetings at NOON (12 p.m.), concluding only when business is complete; the Commission no longer takes an automatic recess at 5 p.m. And, the Commission holds the public hearing discussion and vote at the beginning of each public meeting (as opposed to the end), to ensure ample time for public input prior to other Commission activities taking place.
