TURKEY PERMITS TO BE AVAILABLE ONLINE

KDWP website offers both hunting license and spring turkey permit
PRATT — The 2006 spring turkey season runs April 12-May 31, and hunters across the state are already making preparations. In addition to perfecting calling skills and patterning shotguns or practicing with bows, they soon will be able to obtain two critical tools needed before going afield — a hunting license and a turkey permit — right on the internet.

Downloadable turkey permit applications will be available on KDWP website, and the agency will offer spring turkey permits online, late in the week of Jan. 16. Hunters will also be able to apply online for resident-only, limited-draw permits in Unit 4. This will offer the hunter the convenience of purchasing licenses and turkey permits 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the convenience of their homes.

This service may be particularly handy for those participating in the early youth/disabled season — April 7-9 — which is open to anyone 16 years old or younger and those with disability permits. Kids younger than 16 will not need to have hunter education in order to hunt, but they must be supervised by a person 18 or older. Persons between the ages of 12 and 15 must have hunter education to hunt without adult supervision. Hunters younger than 14 must have bowhunter education to hunt turkey with archery equipment.

With birds being abundant in most areas of the state and a long season that runs from April 12 through May 31, there is ample opportunity to bag one of the state’s eastern, Rio Grande, or hybrid toms. Online license and permit sales makes preparation easier than ever.

Online license and permit sales will be available at the KDWP website and click the “ License/Permit Sales ” icon.
