TURKEY HUNTING UNIT BOUNDARIES MODIFIED FOR FALL SEASON

Expansion of Unit 3 reflects growth of state’s turkey populations

The continued growth of Kansas’ wild turkey population has resulted in enhancement of hunting opportunities in 2007.

At their March 15th public hearing in Topeka, Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission members approved expansion of Turkey Management Unit 3 for the 2007 fall hunting season. The boundary change, already approved for spring turkey seasons, was made possible by growth in turkey numbers in central Kansas.

As a result of the boundary realignment, portions of several counties which were formerly closed to fall hunting are now in Unit 3. Turkey permits in units 1, 2, and 3 may be purchased over the counter. A hunter may purchase up to three turkey game tags for use in Unit 2 during the fall season.
