SPRING TURKEY ATLAS AVAILABLE

Atlas listing all public and walk-in land available online;
printed copies available at KDWP offices
PRATT -- The Kansas youth spring turkey season runs April 6-8; the regular season opens April 11 and runs through May 31; and for the first time, archery hunters have their own spring season, running April 1-10.

To help hunters find places to hunt turkeys, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has announced that its annual Kansas Spring Turkey Hunting Atlas is now available. Maps may be downloaded by county on the department's website, www.kdwp.state.ks.us, or the entire atlas may be downloaded. In addition, printed copies of the atlas are available at most KDWP offices. Printed copies may also be requested by phoning 620-672-5911. There is no charge for the atlas.

This publication of county-by-county maps includes all publicly-accessible land -- including Walk-In Hunting Access areas, state and federal wildlife areas, and federal wildlife refuges. The atlas is an essential tool for every turkey hunter.

More than 145,000 acres have been enrolled in the Walk-In Hunting Access program this spring. Originally confined to the eastern one-third of the state, the program has expanded to include counties in central, northcentral, and northwestern Kansas. Properties shown on the atlas are enrolled for spring only.
Special signs identify the areas as open in spring only.
