2007 TWIN LAKES WATER FESTIVAL SEPT. 25

Conservation of water, pollution prevention to highlight event
COUNCIL GROVE -- The 2007 Twin Lakes Water Festival will be held on Sept. 25 near Council Grove and will educate more than 1,100 4th- and 5th-grade students on natural resources, while offering a hands-on approach to learning at structured, multi-sensory activity stations.

Students will come from Geary, Morris, Chase, Wabaunsee, Dickinson, and Lyon counties and will be taught by natural resource professionals from across the state. More than 300 volunteer staff will make this event possible, including student volunteers from local high schools in Morris, Chase, and Lyon counties. Some of the topics to be covered include the water cycle, the geology of an aquifer, landfill construction, water conservation, nonpoint source pollution, and Kansas wildlife.

This school-based festival is made possible through donations from local and regional sponsors and a grant from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment. For more information, contact Katie Miller, festival coordinator, at 620-767-5111, or email katie.miller@ks.nacdnet.net.
