GOOSE SEASONS LONG, BIRDS PLENTIFUL AS HUNTERS PREPARE FOR NOV. 5 OPENER

Growing populations of snows and Canadas offer hunting opportunity through winter
PRATT -- For decades, the populations of both snow geese and Canada geese have been increasing in the Central Flyway. Accordingly, seasons of both species are long, and avid goose hunters are dusting off their decoys in anticipation.
The 2008 goose seasons are as follows:

  • Canada -- Nov. 5-Feb. 15, 2009, daily bag limit three, possession limit six;
  • white-fronted -- Nov. 5-Jan. 4, 2009, daily bag limit two, possession limit four; and
  • light (Ross’, snow, blue) -- Nov. 5-Feb. 15, 2009, daily bag limit 20, no possession limit.

By special conservation order, light geese may also be taken from Feb. 16-April 30, 2009. During this period, there will be no bag or possession limit on light geese. In addition, participants will be allowed to use unplugged shotguns and electronic calls and take light geese from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset during this conservation order.
