KU ENDOWMENT, KDWP OFFER YOUTH DEER HUNTING OPPORTUNITIES

Special hunts offered on seven tracts in four counties; signup required
PRATT -- The KU Endowment Association and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks are joining forces to provide lucky young hunters high-quality opportunities to hunt deer during the two weekends of the upcoming youth/disabled deer season, which is open Sept. 13-21. More than 1,200 acres owned by the endowment association are being opened to limited hunting during the season. There are seven separate tracts, ranging in size from 54 to 320 acres, in four counties: Chase, Douglas, Osage, and Sumner.

Youth 16 and younger who possess a valid deer permit may hunt during this season while under immediate supervision of an adult 18 or older; participating youth who are 16 must also possess a hunting license. The adult may not hunt.

Access to each tract will be limited to one youth/mentor pair each weekend of the season (Sept. 13-14 and Sept. 20-21) on each of the properties, except the Douglas County tract, which will be open to three youth/mentor pairs per weekend. (NOTE: The Douglas County tract will be available only one day, Sept. 14, of the opening weekend.)

Hunts will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested hunters should contact KDWP’s Fisheries and Wildlife Division, 620-672-5911, to register.

Hunts will be awarded for the first weekend of the season and the last weekend of the season for each of the following properties:

  • Chase County Special Hunt # 1 (54 acres);
  • Douglas County Special Hunt # 1 (240 acres - archery hunting only);
