CLINTON STATE PARK TO HOST OK KIDS DAYS AUG. 13

Event will coincide with park’s Free Park Entrance Days Aug. 13-14
LAWRENCE — In conjunction with Clinton State Park’s Free Park Entrance Days Aug. 13-14, park staff will conduct a free O.K. Kids Day on Saturday, Aug. 13. Free daily kids activities will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., complete with prize drawings throughout the day.

A fishing derby will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Lake Henry, just south of the park office. Fisheries biologists will teach kids how to identify fish, improve casting skills, and bait a hook. Prizes will be given for the biggest fish, smallest fish, and most fish. First-time anglers will be entered into a special First Time Fishermen Award drawing. Fishing poles and bait will be provided.

A hotdog sack lunch will be free to the first 200 people.

For those who stick around and enjoy the park throughout the day, live animals will be on display at Shelter No. 6 in Campground No. 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A snake “show and tell” will be the feature of this display, and everyone will be offered a special viewing of snakes and turtles. Biologists will talk about venomous Kansas snakes, including timber rattlesnake, copperhead, and massasauga rattlesnake, and how to avoid them. Non-venomous snake, turtles, and other critters will also be on display, and everyone who attends will receive a free snake identification booklet while supplies last.

This is a great opportunity for a family camping trip. While Free Park Entrance Days are in effect, overnight camping permits ($8.50) and utility fees ($9 per night) are still required.
