NORTHWEST KANSAS OUTDOOR SKILLS DAY AUGUST 23

COLBY ­– Where can you learn about shotguns, muzzleloaders, archery and furharvesting all in one place? It’s all there at the 14th Annual Northwest Kansas Youth Outdoor Skills Day. Open to youth age 17 and under, the annual event provides youth with a variety of outdoor experiences in a one-stop location. The event will be held Saturday, August 23, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the property of Pat Jones, located four miles north on Hwy 25, two miles east, and two miles north. There is no cost to attend and lunch and supplies will be provided. Participants may register by visiting Colby Lumber and Rasure Lumber in Colby through August 15, or by calling Kurtis Meier at (785) 462-7993, or Wes Sowards at (785) 462-3367.

Participants will receive hands-on instruction on safe gun handling, shotguns, muzzleloaders, archery and tree stand equipment, and furharvesting. Although this event will be held in conjunction with the Thomas County Internet-Assisted Hunter Education course, Hunter Education certification is not required to participate. The Thomas County Internet-Assisted Hunter Education class will take place Friday, August 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Colby Community College Student Union. The Internet portion of this course must be completed prior to attending the classroom portion. Proper outdoor attire is recommended.
