ELLSWORTH YOUTH OUTDOOR FESTIVAL AUG. 21

Shotgun, archery shooting, fishing, shotgun giveaway highlight event
ELLSWORTH — On Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon, youth 17 and younger and accompanying adults are invited to participate in a free day of target shooting and outdoor activities sponsored by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, K-State Research and Extension, Smoky Hill River Pheasants Forever, and area businesses.

Called the Ellsworth Youth Outdoor Festival, the event will be held at the Ellsworth Gun Club, 3 miles west of Ellsworth on Hwy 40 and 3 miles north on 13th Rd. All targets, shooting materials, and equipment will be supplied for the event. Trap, archery, air rifle/BB gun, and computerized laser shot targets will be offered. A free fishing clinic in conjunction with the outdoor event will be held at a nearby pond.

This is an excellent opportunity to introduce youth to the world of shooting sports, hunting, and fishing. Hunter education certification is not required, but youth participants must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers specializing in their field of shooting will closely supervise youth at each shooting station. Registration for the event will be completed on site, and participants can enjoy a free lunch sponsored by Gene’s Heartland Foods.

In addition to the free shooting and fishing opportunities, a shotgun will be given away to one registered youth. For more information, phone Scott Thomasson at 785-658-2465, email scott.thomasson@ksoutdoors.com, or phone Brent Goss at 785-472-4442.
