This class requires students to attend both days to complete the course for hunters ed. certification. Saturdays class will be at the American Legion Building just East of the intersection of US 75 HWY and 6th Street in Holton, KS. Saturdays class will start promptly at 8:30AM and be done by 5:00 PM. Students should arrive between 8:00-8:30 to check in for the class. We will take a lunch break around noon, but students will be responsible for their own lunch. Sundays portion of the course will be held at Banner Creek Reservoir from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. Students will need to be at the lake by 1:00 PM on Sunday. Saturday will entail classroom presentations and Sunday will be outdoor activities, so dress appropriately. Students must be at least 11 YOA to enroll and attend this class. The Lawrence Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2 is sponsoring a Hunter Education Course. ENROLL AT SAFEHUNTERS.COM. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 5:30-9:00 p.m. at Building 21 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds AND Saturday, April 8, 2017, 7:30 a.m-4:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. Attendance on both days is required to pass. Parents or guardians of young students are welcome to attend along with their child if they like. PLEASE DO NOT ENROLL IN THE COURSE IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A HUNTER EDUCATION CERTIFICATE!! If you are only accompanying a child and do not need the course yourself, just come with them, do not enroll. Doing so uses up a spot a potential student may need. Students must be at least 11 years old as of April 8, 2017 to enroll in the course. All persons born after July 1, 1957 must have a Hunter Education certificate to hunt in Kansas. When registering, please provide your full legal name and do not use nicknames. KDWPT/ Clinton State Park chapter of Fishing’s Future will host a Kid’s Fishing Derby on April 22, 2017 at Lake Henry.   Children up to age 15 are invited to bring their poles (or one will be provided). Everything else needed to catch fish will be provided, to include assistance from local anglers.  We’ll give you instruction, supplies and bait.  We’ll let you enjoy fishing with your little angler.  If you need help we’ll be there! 

Registration will open at 9:00 AM, and the derby will run from 10:00 to 11:30.

 

There will be games, contests and prizes for all registered kids after the derby. Please Call the Clinton State Park Office @ 785-842-8562 to Pre-Register.

Lake Henry is a 3 acre stocked pond within the state park.   After purchasing your vehicle permit you’ll take a Left and Park in a field on the East side of the road.  You’ll then walk across the road to the Lake Henry paved road.   Take the short hike and we’ll see you at the registration tent set up on the South side. 

We’ll see you out there!

The Spencer, Wernli & Wilson Storm the Dam Trail run is a  chip timed trail run which winds through scenic  El Dorado Lake State Park and adjacent private property. The double loop marathon, half marathon and 10K connect to the Teter Nature Trail; with some challenging single track trail.  Depending on rainfall expect some wet and muddy crossings. Storm up the dam and enjoy lake views as you run along the lake shore.  Grassy moderate rolling hills of the Boulder Bluff horse trail await you next, work your way through the Walnut Ridge Trail before crossing the finish line near the amphitheater.

The 5K starts with a storm up the dam, enjoy lake views as you run along the shore, find adventure on a short portion of trail course, cross the Walnut River bridge for a final push on paved surface to the finish line.

The El Dorado Lake Triathlon will be Sunday, June 11, 2017 at El Dorado State Park, located 3 miles east of El Dorado, Kansas on Hwy 54 and 1 mile north. It is just 25 minutes east of Wichita, KS. The races will start in the Walnut River area of the park, just below the dam. The swim course will consist of 1 loop for the sprint distance and 2 loops for the Olympic distance. Plenty of parking and camping will be available in the race area.

Olympic and Sprint Triathlons will be chipped timed, dri fit shirts, medals awarded to those finishers and  age group awards for top three male and female.

Teams of 2 or 3 are welcome to sign up.
