Perry Wildlife Area News
Nine managed Dove fields are located on the Perry Wildlife Area totaling 90 acres. ALL DOVE FIELDS ON PERRY WILDLIFE AREA ARE NON-TOXIC SHOT ONLY.All fields on the area are mixed fields with sunflower centers and wheat borders except one 5.5 acre field off Headwater Road which is millet, one field located at the corner of 186th and Finney just northwest of Reichart marsh which is millet, and one 3 acre field north of the Area Office which is all sunflowers. Two fields are located north of 190th. The east field will be open to all access, and the west field will open Thursday September 3rd. Two fields totaling 12 acres will be located just north of the Area Office. Two fields totaling 14.5 acres will be located northwest of the intersection of Finney and 170th. And the last field is located on the southwest corner of Ferguson and 154th Street in the Youth and Mentor/Handicapped field. Each adult must be accompanied by an actively hunting youth to be hunting this field.
Maintain safe shooting distances between hunting parties and always know what lies beyond your target. It is highly recommended that hunters where safety/shooting glasses within the dove fields to prevent potential injury due to falling pellets. Also, the sunflower/wheat combination fields are designed for hunters to sit in the standing sunflowers in the middle of the field and shoot outward, this will greatly reduce the potential for injury.
Detailed maps and information will be posted on the Perry Wildlife Area web page.
Perry Wildlife Area is changing to the electronic permitting system iSportsman starting September 1st, 2015. This system, which will streamline data gathering for management purposes and be convenient for hunters, is taking the place of the old paper dove survey card system. Hunters can register at any time by going to kdwpt.isportsman.net, and clicking on “Register” to create a permit. Once you obtain a permit and are ready to hunt, click on login, then enter login ID and password. After you are done hunting, you can sign out. You are also able to check-in/check-out by telephone or smart phone. Hunters are strongly encouraged to use iSportsman; however, one dove survey card station will be located at the area office for those unable to use the electronic system.
