Special events 2013 update and current trail facility status
Park Open House for Prairie Spirit Rail Trail State Park.
An Open House for Prairie Spirit Rail Trail State Park will be held on March 9th, 2013 from 8 am to 12 noon in the City of Iola at the Park Community Building at Riverside Park (600 S State Street).
Allen County Thrive will be giving a power point presentation at 10 am on their community activities as well as information on the newly finished extension from Cofachique park to Riverside park and the continued work on the Southwind trail which goes from Iola to Humboldt.
Representatives from the three large communities of Ottawa, Garnett, and Iola will be there with information as well as Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail for those that would like to be more involved helping the trail.
This year will be the first Ultra Marathon held on the Prairie Spirit Trail. The event will be held on March 23, 2013. More information may be obtained by going to the following site:
This event will include both a 50 and 100 mile run and we hope it will become an annual trail event.
17th Annual Trail Celebration
The Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail will be having the 17th Annual Trail Celebration on March 27, 2013 in Garnett. This event is an annual fund raiser for trail projects and is hosted in the Garnett Community building, located trail-side in the North Lake Park in Garnett. Current trail facility status
Trail restrooms in Princeton, Richmond, Welda, Colony and Carlyle have been closed for the season and will reopen in April.
Trail restrooms in Garnett, Located in the Adjacent Historic Depot, are open year-round. The Historic Depot Museum, located trail side in Ottawa, will be closed for the months of January and February and will reopen in March. We will post open days and time once it is reopened.
