Elwood | Only Non-Toxic shot allowed! Hunters are required to create/login and electronically check-in and out using Go Outdoors KS App or https://gooutdoorskansas.com/ Overall, the dove fields at Elwood Wildlife Area are poor due to deer and insect damage. We tried some alternative options for dove plots with an 8-acre milo field and a 5-acre proso millet field. Since these fields were a secondary option, they got planted late and may not have mature/dry seed heads. Although the fields at Elwood are poor condition, some groups of doves have been seen using the area. Detailed maps with field locations and sizes are available at the Elwood Wildlife Area web page Maps will also be posted on signs at the parking areas. | Kirk Thompson (913) 367-7811

Cheyenne Bottoms | No dove fields in 2022. | Jason Wagner (620) 793-3066
Finney | A solar pump on the property runs when the sun shines. The water is pumped into a small watering hole for all wildlife to utilize. There are several large ponds on adjacent properties that may pull in more doves than this small waterhole. There is excellent roosting sites throughout the property that should provide for great early morning and late evening hunts. One may even be productive walking through the trees and "flushing" birds |
Brent Clark (620) 474-2949
Garton | A water tank at Garton is always full for wildlife to utilize. The well runs several hours a day and water runs out the overflow creating a small waterhole. |
Brent Clark (620) 474-2949
Goodman | There's a 4 acre food plot located along the west edge of the property. It sits between 2 cedar tree rows. Due to dry conditions in 2022 it has not be planted to anything. However, mourning doves utilize this site regularly. |
Brent Clark (620) 474-2949
Hodgeman | The lake water level is low with lots of native sunflowers around the edge and there is plenty of bare shoreline for doves to utilize. The wildlife area is split into 2 pastures, east and west. There are 2 waterholes in the west pasture, along with the lake. The east pasture has a nice creek bottom running through it that has plenty of trees for roosting sites. There is also a spring in the drainage that supplies a natural wetland (below the lake dam). Due to dry conditions in 2022, ponds and the creek drainage are dry. |
Brent Clark (620) 474-2949
Kepley | There is a small waterhole that is pumped daily. Prior to the season weeds will be mowed down around the waterhole. |
Brent Clark (620) 474-2949
Lane | The shelter belts and grass at Lane always provide good nesting and roosting sites. The area is being developed into a pumpable wetland and has food plots planted to millets, and buckwheat, with a bunch of native forage. Sandsage Bison Range and Wildlife Area | Below normal precipitation has resulted in poor sunflower and other food plant production throughout the area. The on going drought conditions have also forced us to move our bison herd to the north winter pasture area earlier than normal so the entire north pasture area will be closed to all activities this fall. Maps and additional information may also be found on the Sandsage Bison Range Wildlife Area webpage. | Tom Norman (620) 474-3645

This 25 acre sunflower field is located 1/2 mile south of the intersection of 10th Avenue and Buckskin Road, in the Little Sinkhole Marshes Unit southeast of Inman. Toronto | For the 2022 Mourning Dove season there will be 1 managed dove field, totaling 15 acres, on the Toronto Wildlife Area. This field is non-toxic shot only and will be open to all hunters. There were two other fields planted on the area but due to flooding and deer browse only one was successful. The field is a mowed sunflower field and is located west of the "T" intersection at 130th and EE 50 rd. The field may not be visible from the road but is located northwest of the parking area, hunters will simply follow the mowed path to the field. The field had fair production this year but there should be plenty of seed on the ground for doves. | Bo Westerfield (620)-583-6783

Woodson | 2022 Woodson Wildlife Area Dove Management Fields - Located 9 miles West of Yates Center Kansas, in Woodson County. There was approx. 24 acres of sunflowers planted and 4 acres of milo/millet. Sunflowers did fair, with average head size and average yields. Most fields had abundant annual weed production as well, such as Fox Tail Millet and Ragweed. I expect hunters to have normal or average hunting success this 2022 season.
