MEADE STATE PARK, VOLUNTEERS RECOGNIZED FOR OK KIDS DAY EVENT

Staff, volunteers already planning for 2006 event

Meade State Park staff and their local partners have received a "Commitment to Excellence" award for their efforts in hosting a popular and well-attended OK KIDS Day event in 2005. The award, presented by Kansas Wildscape and Capitol Federal Savings & Loan, recognized the May 7, 2005 event conducted at the park. More than 600 youngsters were treated to a variety of exhibits and activities including a fishing derby, outdoor craft making, water safety training, and more.

Thanks to donations and volunteers from the local area, the day also included lunch for more than 1,100 persons attending the event.

"We would like to thank all who have supported the OK KIDS event here at the park," said Park Manager Mark Goldsberry. "The event would not be possible without the support of the businesses and people of our communities. The planning committee has started plans for the 5th annual event to be held on May 6, 2006. If you would like to donate or help with the event, please contact the park office."
