WILDLIFE AND PARKS COMMISSION SETS 2008 SPRING TURKEY SEASON

Approved regulation features expanded season for young, disabled hunters
COLBY -- Turkey hunters can start making plans for the 2008 spring season. At a public hearing in Colby Oct. 18, the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission approved a regular season that runs April 9 through May 31, 2008.

Commissioners also approved a recommendation from Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks staff to modify the youth/disabled persons season, which precedes the regular season. The youth/disabled season will run April 1-8, concurrent with the archery-only season. Previously, the youth/disabled season was the Friday through Sunday prior to opening of the regular season.

The commission also approved an increase in the number of permits available in Unit 4 (southwest Kansas) to 325, of which 250 are available for the regular draw and 75 designated for drawing among applicants 16 or younger.
