13TH ANNUAL GOVERNOR'S GOLF & FISHING CLASSIC JUNE 12-13

Win cash prizes; sponsored soldiers being deployed to Iraq in August

JUNCTION CITY -- The Kansas Wildscape Foundation has announced that the 13th Annual Governor's Golf & Fishing Classic will be held June 12-13. The golfing event takes place on Friday, June 12, at rolling Meadows Golf Course, and the fishing event will be held June 13 at Milford Reservoir.

Fees for the golf tournament include $400 for four-person teams or $100 for individual entries. Golfing tournament payout per flight includes $750 for first place, $500 for second, and $250 for third.

The fee for the fishing tournament is $200 per entrant. The first-place prize of $1,500 will go to the team with the heaviest 5-fish limit of bass 15 inches or longer. Second place will net $1,000 for the heaviest 2-fish limit of walleye 18 inches or longer. The $500 third-place prize will go to the team with the heaviest 2-fish limit of wipers 18 inches or longer. A special fourth place prize of two free entries in the 2010 Governor's Classic will go to the team that catches the most fish of all species.

Wildscape is looking for sponsors for 40 soldiers to compete in the fishing event, which costs $200 per soldier. Soldiers participating in this year's event will come from Fort Riley's 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which is being deployed to Iraq in August.

Event organizers are also looking for fishing guides. Those who provide guiding services, a boat, and tackle will be able to compete for the cash prizes in the fishing event. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday, as well as gift cards for local businesses. The guide of the winning boat will take home a $100 gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops.
