LOVEWELL STATE PARK HOSTS SAND SCULPTURE CONTEST JULY 19

14th annual event offers teams prizes and plenty of fun
WEBBER -- The 14th annual Sand Castle/Sculpture Contest at Lovewell State Park, near Webber, is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at the Southwinds Beach area of the state park. Teams comprising as many as five people can register at the state park office from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Sand castles will be judged at 2 p.m., and prizes will be awarded to the top three sand castles. Those who decide not to enter the contest are still invited to the beach to view these sand art masterpieces. A vehicle permit is required. Daily permits are $4.20, and annual permits are $24.70.

“The sand castle contest is an excellent event for families, friends, and individuals," says park manager Rick Cleveland. "It encourages good sportsmanship, teamwork, and creativity, and it's neat to see families with children as young as two and grandparents in their 70s all working together on their entries. However, we would not be able to host events such as this without generous sponsorship from area businesses.”
