TUTTLE CREEK STATE PARK FREE ENTRANCE DAYS AUG. 22-23

Event includes Kansas Kids' Celebration, model airplanes, boating instruction, and more
MANHATTAN -- Join the fun at Tuttle Creek State Park’s Annual Free Entrance Days and Outdoor Kansas Kids' Celebration on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22-23.

Saturday’s activities begin at 9:30 a.m. with disc golf, a fishing clinic, and BB gun and archery instruction. At noon, the park will host the Annual Wounded Warriors presentation by the 4th District Veterans of Foreign Wars of Manhattan. At 1 p.m., attendees may enjoy a number entertaining and educational events, including personal watercraft and laser shot hunting simulators, a bike rodeo presented by Big Poppi Bikes, all-terrain vehicle and boating safety instruction presented by the Pottawatomie Sheriff’s Department, radio control planes presented by the Riley County Fliers Club, a horse shoe tournament, games, and ice cream. In addition, the Little Apple Train will run through the park, and kids can wear themselves out on giant inflatable toys.

Later, the park will host the annual Camper Appreciation Potluck dinner, kid prize give-a-ways, and the Show and Shine Car Displays. Those who bring one non-perishable food item to donate to the food bank can play bingo and dance. The Fancy Creek Shooting Range is holding a Youth Day on Saturday, as well.

Sunday’s activities begin at 9 a.m. with a Worship Service at Bob Fleming Shelter. At 11 a.m., visitors can find out all about the Tuttle Creek Dam Construction process with an update by the Army Corps of Engineers project manager.

Other events include free canoe, kayak, and paddleboat use and challenging Trikke "carving" bikes. The morning will end with a beach treasure hunt at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., visitors will be offered canoe and kayak games, and the Riley County Fliers again will demonstrate their flying machines.
