KANSAS WILDLIFE AND PARKS MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES “WILD ABOUT KANSAS” WINNERS

The 2015 contest will have a new adult category open to photographers age 19 and older

PRATT – There’s a reason people are drawn to outdoor photography. It showcases a world outside of our own, it unearths creatures we may not have seen otherwise, and it reminds us that there is beauty all around us. The contestants of the second annual “Wild About Kansas” junior photography contest have done this and more. From photos that welcome us into the home of a newly-hatched bird, to capturing a Kansas midnight sky, these young photographers have proved there are plenty of reasons to be wild about Kansas.

Submitted photos were judged based on creativity, composition, subject matter, lighting, and overall sharpness. A total of 53 entries were received from 22 participants, ranging from age 7-18. 2014 “Wild About Kansas” award winners are as follows:

WILDLIFE

1st - Christina Craig (16), Lawrence: “Baby Robin”

2nd - Chance Thoman (17), Kansas City: “Red-tailed Hawk”

3rd - Gentry Shapland (14), Dighton: “Field Mouse”

Honorable Mention - Gentry Shapland (14), Dighton: “Wasp”

LANDSCAPE

1st - Nathan Jones (18), Louisburg: “Sunset on The Fence”

2nd - Nathan Jones (18), Louisburg: “A Shooting Star”

3rd - Aaron Avelar (18), Goodland: “Cloudy Railroad”

Honorable Mention - Christina Craig (16), Lawrence: “Gray Kansas”

OUTDOOR RECREATION

1st - Chance Thoman (17), Kansas City: “Ryan’s Wheelie”

2nd - Klaire Sarver (15), Lawrence: “End of The Ride”

3rd - Cheyenne Passmore (12), Dodge City: “Keeper of The Plains”

New for 2015, photographers age 19 and older may enter the contest in an adult category. More information on the 2015 contest will be made available at the beginning of the year.
