Family-friendly event to be held at Topeka’s Dornwood Park

PRATT – Put your detective skills to work with the Kansas Native Plant Society as they identify the trees of Dornwood Park, SE 25th St and SE Highland Ave, in Topeka. The 2015 Winter Tree Identification Walk will take place Feb. 21 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Using only buds, twigs, and bark as clues, participants will learn to identify multiple oak and hickory species as well as ash, bladdernut, cherry, elm, paw paw, sycamore, and others.

Apart from tree identification, participants can also enjoy spotting wildlife that use the trees, including owls.

Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for weather. There is no cost, however participants are asked to RSVP to event coordinator, Jeff Hansen, (785) 806-6917.
