In 1989 Michael Brzon deeded a 320-acre Republic County farm to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism through the WILDTRUST program for the purpose of providing a wildlife area to be used by all people whom enjoy the Kansas outdoors. The area was a working farm with both cropland and pastureland. The Brzon Wildlife Area is managed under special conditions to allow quality outdoor experiences.

Upland and big game hunting is by special permit only during the season. Special Hunt applications are available through the KDWPT Special Hunt program. The Brzon Wildlife Area is located in an area of the state that normally supports a good population of both bobwhite quail and ringneck pheasant and excellent dove shooting can be found in early September.See Dove Hunting Special Regulations in the Area News

Because Hunter Education classes are sometimes not regularly scheduled and often difficult to work into already busy schedules, the State of Kansas has made it easier to begin hunting even without taking the class. In recent years, Kansas has passed laws so that persons 15 and younger may hunt without hunter education as long as they are directly supervised by an adult 18 or older. Again this year Kansas allows anyone 16 years and older who has not passed a hunter ed class to purchase a one-time "apprentice hunting license" which allows them to hunt while accompanied by a licensed adult 18 or older. The apprentice license is good for the calendar year.

Remember before heading to the field to purchase your HIP stamp and plug those shotguns so they are capable of holding no more than 3 shells.
