April 23, 2016 State Parks Open House

On Saturday, April 23, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) will host a free entrance day and open houses at all state parks. Visitors also will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of events at most parks.

The state parks and their special events are listed below:

Cedar Bluff

  • Park Office will be open 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.  
  • Build your own Trail Mix will be available in the office
  • Go on a Earth Day hike on Agave Ridge Hiking Trail
  • Staff will be available for questions and for cabin tours all day  

Cheney

  • Park Office will be open 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Refreshments served all day.
  • OK Kids Day

Clinton

  • The Park Office will be closed.
  • Park Clean up - call park office for more information.
  • Heartland Coursing Association will have dog trials - Picnic Area from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. 

Crawford

  • The park office will be open from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Disc Golf tournament: 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Tenative
  • 5K Walk/Run 8:00 a.m. starting at Beach Shelter - Contact Park office for details.
  • Cabin Open House and Touch a Fire Truck presentations 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Beach Day Use Area.  
  • There will be a kids fishing clinic starting at 1:00 p.m.  to 4:00 p.m.
  • Archery Clinic from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Cross Timbers & Fall River

  • Cabins open house hours of 9 a.m. till 2 p.m., Timber Walker at Cross Timbers, and Cedar Crest at Fall River.  
  • KDHE Park Clean-up day at Cross Timbers. Free breakfast provided for volunteers. Make sure to register online at www.kdheks.gov/waste/earthday.html.

Eisenhower

Glen Elder

Hillsdale

  • Park Office open for licenses and boat registrations: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 
  • SunCo Pacific Sunwear Park Cleanup Event - Shelter #1 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Jayhawk Marina Tours offered all day.
  • Hillsdale Shooting Range: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m - American Marksman Freestyle match - Pre-register at www.AmMarksman.com

Kanopolis

  • Park office will be open 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for customers to purchase permits and licenses. 
  • KDHE Park Clean-Up Day - (Time not set yet) - Register online at www.kdheks.gov/waste/earthday.html.

Lovewell

  • Office open 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • 5k run/walk. Registration at Willow Shelter from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Run/walk will start at the Willow Shelter at 9:00 a.m.
  • 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. is the Annual Adopt a Flower Program. Bring in any annual or perennial flowering plant to the state park office. Flowers will be planted at designated areas throughout the park.

Meade

  • Park Office will be open 8:00-4:00
  • Volunteer Park Cleanup - All day (Lunch for Volunteers courtesy of Friends of Meade State Park)
  • Disc/Foot Golf Course tours - All day

Milford

  • Cabin open for tour 8:00 a.m. to Noon
  • KDHE/Westar Energy Park Clean-up 8:00 a.m. to Noon. Register online at www.kdheks.gov/waste/earthday.html.
  • Kids Game 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Perry

  • Office 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for sales
  • Antique Car Show (weather permitting)
  • Cabin open for tour

Pomona

  • Park Office will be open: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • KDHE Park Clean-up day from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Free breakfast and t-shirts for volunteers - Register online at www.kdheks.gov/waste/earthday.html.

Prairie Dog

  • Office open 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • 8:00 am to 12:00 noon is an Earth Day Event sponsored by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and KDWPT. Breakfast will be provided and volunteers will receive a t-shirt. Registration is requested and can be complete online at www.kdheks.gov/waste/earthday.html
  • Cabin tours will be available from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Prairie Spirit Trail

Lake Scott

  • Park Office will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Refreshments will be available at the office
  • Steele Home tours available throughout the day
  • "Adopt a Flower" Program (Visitors may bring flowers and they will be planted and distributed at several locations in the park.)

Tuttle Creek

  • Office Open: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Park Clean-up: 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Meet Park Office)
  • Archery shooting: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Archery Range)
  • Sling Shot shooting: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Archery Range)

Webster

  • Park office open 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for license and permit sales
  • Stockton Recreation Commission will be holding a Run/Walk the Coyote Trail at 9:00 a.m. Meet at trail entrance. The route will be the 3 mile long loop. No Cost - Call Bridget Starbuck at 785-425-7016 with questions.

Wilson

  • Park office open 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for license/permit sales.
