|Species||Rating||Size||Baits, Method, Location|
|Channel and Hybrid Catfish||Fair||14-24"||Catfish angling can be good until water falls into the 40s. Try stinkbait or chicken livers.|
|Largemouth Bass||Good||8-18"||Bass fishing can be good during cooler weather on warm, sunny days. Focus on moving soft plastics along rocky shoreline on the north end of the lake. Please consider harvesting fish under the 13"-18" protected slot length limit to improve size structure of the largemouth bass population.|
|Crappie||Fair||6-12"||Schooling crappie can be found suspended along the creek channel and underwater structure during winter.|
|Bluegill/Redear Sunfish||Good||8-11"||Bluegill and redears can be caught in cooler weather by fishing a worm around 6 ft below a slip cork in 8 to 10 ft of water.|
Six habitat cubes were placed near 37.16237, -95.68882 on August 3, 2015.
Both channel catfish and hybrid catfish are present. Hybrid catfish can be identified by a vertical brand behind their right pectoral fin under their dorsal fin. Channel catfish stocked in 2013 can be identified by a similar vertical mark except behind their left pectoral fin. Both species have their adipose fin clipped. Harvest regulations for channel catfish, blue catfish, and their hybrids in Montgomery County State Fishing Lake include a 15" minimum length limit and a five fish daily creel.
Anglers should note that there are no alcoholic beverages allowed on the area.
The maintained boat ramp at Montgomery State Fishing Lake is usable.
