The Heron cabin is a 1 bedroom cabin with a full sized bed and a fold down futon in the bedroom and a futon in the living room along with a Murphy Bed. It will sleep 6 or 7. It has a furnished kitchen with full sized refrigerator and stove and is handicapped accessible.

Cheney State Park has nine modern cabins that we are offering as an alternative to “roughing it.” These provide a great opportunity to experience the joys of the outdoors for those wanting to enjoy the lake but not wanting to tent-camp.

Cabins are located in an area together but staggered to provide privacy from each other. They are in close proximity to the lake and are within walking distance of the beach and swimming area. Those reserving the cabins must provide their own bed linens, pillows, towels, soap, and personal items. Smoking is not allowed in the cabins and pets are not allowed in the cabins.  There is a leash law in effect for the park.

Reservations are accepted online or by phone at the Cheney State Park Office, 316-542-3664. Reservations are handled on a first come, first served basis, and for a period of 364 days in advance. Reservations require full payment up front and includes the total stay plus a nonrefundable reservation fee. The damage and refund policy is explained on the reservation page and in an email that we send prior to your stay. We do require a $75 deposit in cash, check or credit card that will be refunded upon check-out if the cabin is left in good condition. We ask that you leave the cabin in the condition it was in when you checked in.

Cabins reserve for the following prices and prices are subject to change:

    • Sunday/Thursday: $110
    • Friday/Saturday: $150

In addition, a daily vehicle permit is required in all state parks unless the renter has a current annual permit. The daily fee is $5.00 a day for a vehicle permit and can be purchased when you arrive or online ahead of time. Prices for annual permits and senior permits and how to obtain them are located elsewhere on this site.

Two access points to the North Shore Hiking/Biking trails are nearby.

    • Just east of the Wakarusa River cabin, you can access the trail system. There is an eagle blind in the wooded area near there, and you’ll have a great view of the Clinton Marina Cove.
