DEER PERMIT EXPIRATION DATE DEPENDENT ON UNIT
Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 17, & 18 are closed to all deer hunting after Dec. 31
PRATT -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) will conduct a firearms extended whitetail antlerless deer season Jan. 1-8. Hunters who did not fill a deer permit or Whitetail Antlerless Only Deer game tag during one of the regular 2005 seasons (muzzleloader, archery, firearms) may use that permit during this season. However, permits that allowed the take of a mule deer or any antlered deer revert to whitetail antlerless only permits.
In addition, hunters should understand two critical lines that appear on their 2005 permits:
- "Expires: 01/08/2006," and
- "Units: (will vary depending on permit or game tag)."
The units listed on a permit or game tag may be misunderstood. While unfilled permits and game tags may carry over into the January 2006 season, they are only valid in all the listed units during the 2005 regular seasons. Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 17, and 18 are closed to all deer hunting after Dec. 31.
These rules are clarified in the 2005 Kansas Hunting and Furharvesting Regulations Summary, available wherever licenses are sold or online under Hunting Regulations. This brochure is an essential tool for all hunters wanting to know whether their permits are valid in the January season.
For those who have not purchased a permit but would like to hunt the January season, permits may be purchased through Jan. 7. For details, visit the KDWP website .
