RESIDENT ANY-DEER DRAWING COMPLETE
Results still being tabulated
PRATT -- Whitetail deer thrive throughout Kansas, but mule deer are fewer in number and confined primarily to the western one-quarter of the state. For this reason, permits to hunt a mule deer -- called Resident Any-Deer permits because they are confined to residents only -- must be obtained through a drawing. The deadline for this year's drawing was July 15.
Officials with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) have announced that the results of the drawing will be complete by Aug. 1. Staff are still compiling results, and successful applicants will be notified by mail in early August. Those who wish to know earlier if they were successful may phone the KDWP Pratt Operations Office at 620-672-5911 and ask for Licensing any time after Aug. 1.
Occupying the wide-open spaces of the High Plains, mule deer offer the hunter a different challenge than the wily whitetail, which prefers woody habitat. Muleys have the advantage of being able to see hunters long way off, a particular challenge for the bowhunter. For more information on deer in Kansas, visit the KDWP website.
