YOUTH DOVE HUNT PLANNED AT JEFFREY ENERGY CENTER

Sept. 2-4 event to offer limited-access fields to young hunters

The Westar Energy Green Team will host a dove hunt for novice hunters at the Jeffrey Energy Center, near Topeka, on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2-4. Volunteers will guide novices to wheat stubble fields with limited access in early morning or late afternoon Saturday through Monday of the holiday weekend.

This hunt is a great way for kids and novices to learn dove hunting basics with lots of birds flying at close range. Youngsters must bring their own shotguns, be accompanied by a non-shooting adult, and have a hunting license and Harvest Information (HIP) stamp if age 16 or older. Shotgun shells and drinks will be provided.

For more information, contact Brad Loveless at 785-575-8115 to register and indicate morning or afternoon preferences. Requests must be received before August 31. Hunters will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Hunts will be scheduled as requests dictate and hunting groups can be formed.
