Herington’s Frank Meyer honored for volunteer participation, trails advocacy

PRATT – American Trails has named Frank Meyer, Herington, a winner of the National Trail Award for 2006. Meyer, a member of the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission since 2004, was honored at the 18th National Trails Symposium Oct. 21 in the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois.

The award recognizes Meyer’s participation in a variety of trail development projects around the state. For the past 20 years, he has contributed more than 2,000 hours annually to such projects. He has served on the Kanza Rail-Trails Conservancy Board of Directors since 2000, including serving as its president the last two years.

Meyer was honored for his advocacy for trails as well as his volunteer participation in trail development projects around the state. He regularly hauls his road grader -- “Kitty” -- to assist in trail construction and enhancement projects.

American Trails is a national, nonprofit organization working on behalf of all trail interests. The organization presents awards every two years to recognize the contributions of volunteers, professionals, and other leaders who are working to create a national system of trails for all Americans.
