New chapter to serve Dickinson and surrounding counties
ABILENE -- The historic trailhead at the end of the Chisholm Trail, where the cattle finally met their ride to the eastern markets in the 19th century, has a new Quail Unlimited (QU) chapter staking claim to its name. The new Chisholm Trail QU Chapter has already begun some preliminary fundraising efforts with silent auction wildlife prints being placed in strategic business locations in the Abilene area.

“This gets us started raising funds for habitat projects that we are excited about,” says Jim Townsend, a local landowner and treasurer for the new QU chapter. "We want folks to know that we’re actively investing the funds we raise to improve quail habitat in our area."

The Chisholm Trail Chapter's name came easily to its organizers. “We thought of several names and/or landmarks, but we felt that Chisholm Trail worked best,” adds Tonya Stroda, chairman of the new chapter.

Chapter members hope to secure matching grants that will help them restore quail habitat in Dickinson and surrounding counties.
