Event to feature presentations on habitat buffers, farming for quail,
as well as free cookout and raffle
GIRARD -- The Southeast Kansas Quail Unlimited Chapter will host a cookout/membership drive to educate, inform, challenge, and even satisfy the hunger of quail enthusiasts. The program is slated for Saturday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Producers Co-Op in Girard.

The multifaceted event will feature guest speaker Roger Wells, Quail Unlimited's National Habitat Program director. Wells will present a program entitled “Quail On a Kansas Farm." Dennis Clutter, Crawford County Conservation District buffer coordinator, will also address the group and provide answers to landowners' questions regarding the popular Farm Bill program known as Practice CP33 (Habitat Buffers for Upland Birds).

“The chapter is really gaining momentum,” says Bob Peterson, Quail Unlimited Central Plains regional director. "This event will be insightful and should lure sincerely interested individuals to their local quail conservation mission. It’s exciting to be a part of a national and local quail recovery effort."

The event will offer special incentives to attend, such as a gun raffle and a commemorative mirror, to be auctioned during the event. Funds raised will support the local chapter’s conservation projects. Additionally, Southeast Kansas Quail Unlimited Chapter members will treat participants to a cookout, including hamburgers, hotdogs, and all the trimmings.

There are no fees to attend this event, which is open to landowners, conservation-minded individuals, and the media. Attendees are encouraged to show their support by joining the local Quail Unlimited chapter.
