RECREATIONAL TRAILS DEVELOPMENT FOCUS OF OCT. 18-19 SUMMIT
Lawrence event offers forum for advocates to learn, share information
LAWRENCE -- Trails enthusiasts from across Kansas will converge on Lawrence Oct. 18 and 19 for the Kansas Built Environment and Trails Summit. A variety of groups and individuals with extensive trail development experience will share information on planning, building, and maintaining recreational trails.
The Oct. 18 session will offer an overview of the health benefits trails provide, successful collaboration and partnerships in communities across Kansas, and resources available for effective trail development. The Oct. 19 agenda will review success stories of recent trail construction projects in Kansas, legal issues affecting trail development projects, and basic methods of building multi-purpose trails. In addition, the Oct. 19 agenda will invite public input from advocates of specific trail uses (hiking, biking, equestrian, water, and motorized).
Registration deadline is Oct. 10, and the registration fee is $50 for the full session or $25 for Thursday or Friday only. More information, including the complete summit agenda and registration form, is available at the Kansas Recreation and Park Association website, www.krpa.org.
The event is being hosted by the Kansas Recreation and Park Association, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and Governor’s Council on Fitness. Participating organizations include Kansas Travel and Tourism, Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Trails Council, Kansas Horse Council, Kansas Whitewater Association, Kansas Canoe Association, Sunflower Recreational Trails, Johnson County Park and Recreation District, Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, Parks and Recreation of Topeka, Kanza Rail Trail Conservancy, and Friends of the Kaw.
