GOVERNOR’S ANNUAL ONE-SHOT TURKEY HUNT FEATURES YOUTH PROGRAM
Event takes place April 8-10, 2009; youth application deadline Jan. 16, 2009
A youth hunting program is a highlight of the Governor’s Annual One-Shot Turkey Hunt, held in Butler County April 8-10, 2009, and six youngsters from around the state are selected to participate. Youth participants in this hunt must have successfully completed a state hunter education course, be 12 through 18 years old, have a current Kansas hunting license (if required), and be accompanied by a parent or an adult sponsor who will stay with them except when they are hunting with a guide.
Each of the six youth chosen for the hunt must attend all three days, as well as evening events of the hunt. In addition, candidates for the hunt must complete and submit an application form by Jan. 16, 2009, from which the six participants will be selected.

The Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt will provide the following:
- a guide for each participant;
- tickets and passes to all the events for the parent/sponsor and youth;
- one turkey permit;
- tickets and passes to future hunt events (does not include turkey hunting);
- membership in the Past Shooter and Guides Association upon 21st birthday (application required); and
- special awards for the youth hunters and their guides.
The Kansas Governor’s Annual One Shot Turkey Hunt has become recognized throughout the United States as one of the premier hunts in the nation. All eligible youngsters are encouraged to apply.
