MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT AIDS YOUTH HUNTING, FISHING EVENTS
Conrad Carlson tourney raises funds for turkey and fishing clinics, shooting sports, much more
EMPORIA -- After a tragic construction accident claimed the young life of Conrad Carlson on August 1, 2002, a non-profit foundation bearing his name was formed. One of the foundation's major fundraising events is an annual golf tournament, to be held at Osage City Country Club on Saturday, June 7.
The tournament raises funds to support numerous youth activities in Osage, Lyon, and Coffey counties. Some of these events include a youth turkey clinic in Emporia, an OK Kids Day, an annual youth quail/chukar hunt at Eisenhower State Park, and the Conrad Carlson Memorial Scholarship.
The biggest project the foundation has aided is a youth fishing pond at Huffman Park in Osage City. Projects include fish stocking, an aerator, a fish feeder, landscaping, benches, trash receptacles, and a shelter house. The pond is the host of an annual youth fishing derby held every year in May in cooperation with the Osage City Lions Club.
